The UGREEN NASync DXP4800 Plus is the best NAS for Plex and Immich for most people. It has four bays, a 5-core Intel Pentium Gold 8505 with Quick Sync, 8 GB of DDR5 that expands to 64 GB, and 10GbE plus 2.5GbE. If two bays are enough, the UGREEN NASync DXP2800 (Intel N100, 8 GB) costs less. Want Synology's DSM software? The Synology DS225+ works, but max its RAM out for Immich.

What Plex and Immich need

Best overall: UGREEN NASync DXP4800 Plus

UGREEN lists an Intel Pentium Gold 8505 (5 cores, 6 threads), 8 GB DDR5 expandable to 64 GB, and four SATA bays plus two M.2 NVMe slots. Network is 1× 10GbE and 1× 2.5GbE, and RAID covers 0/1/5/6/10. UGREEN rates it at 42.36 W during drive access and 18.12 W in drive hibernation. UGREEN says Plex runs in Docker and the 8505 supports Quick Sync. The price on UGREEN's US store was $619.99 at time of checking.

Why it leads: 8 GB already beats Immich's recommendation, it has room to grow to 64 GB, and four bays give you RAID 5 for a large Plex library.

Best 2-bay value: UGREEN NASync DXP2800

UGREEN lists the 12th-gen Intel N100 (4 cores), 8 GB DDR5 expandable to 16 GB, two SATA bays plus two M.2 NVMe slots, 2.5GbE, and RAID 0/1. Power is rated at 16.38 W during drive access and 5.24 W in hibernation. UGREEN says Plex can run in Docker. It was $389.99 on UGREEN's US store at time of checking (regular $439.99). The N100 is newer than Jasper Lake, which meets Plex's NAS note for HEVC output. For more on the chip, read N100 vs N150.

Best for Synology DSM: Synology DS225+

Synology lists an Intel Celeron J4125 (4 cores, 2.0/2.7 GHz), 2 GB DDR4 with one slot (6 GB max), two SATA bays, and one 2.5GbE plus one 1GbE port. Power is 16.98 W during access and 6.08 W in HDD hibernation, and it has a 3-year warranty. Intel lists Quick Sync for the J4125 (Gemini Lake Refresh). That's older than the Jasper Lake line Plex names for HEVC output, so expect H.264 transcodes. For Immich, add the 4 GB module to reach Immich's 6 GB minimum. Compare it with a self-built box in Synology vs DIY NAS.

Mini PC instead?

A mini PC with external or USB storage can also run both apps. See best mini PC for Jellyfin and Jellyfin vs Plex. Then estimate running cost with the power cost calculator.

FAQ

What is the best NAS for Plex and Immich?

For most people, the UGREEN NASync DXP4800 Plus: a 5-core Intel Pentium Gold 8505 with Quick Sync, 8 GB DDR5 (up to 64 GB), four bays, and 10GbE plus 2.5GbE.

How much RAM does a NAS need for Immich?

Immich lists a 6 GB minimum and recommends 8 GB. Both UGREEN picks ship with 8 GB. The Synology DS225+ ships with 2 GB and reaches 6 GB with a 4 GB module.

Does Plex hardware transcoding work on a NAS?

Yes, on an Intel CPU with Quick Sync and an active Plex Pass. Plex says NAS users need Jasper Lake or newer to transcode to HEVC reliably.

Is a 2-bay NAS enough for Plex and Immich?

For many homes, yes. UGREEN notes two drives in RAID 1 give you the capacity of the smaller drive with protection against one drive failing.
