Usually not. A commercial VPN such as Proton VPN routes your outgoing traffic through the provider's servers. It doesn't give you a way back into your home network. To reach Immich, Jellyfin or Vaultwarden from outside, use WireGuard, Tailscale or Cloudflare Tunnel instead. The usual consumer use for a VPN is public Wi-Fi.

The short answer: usually no

A commercial VPN (Proton VPN, NordVPN and others) sends your outgoing traffic through the provider's servers. Reaching your own server from outside is a different job. Tools built for that are WireGuard, Tailscale or Cloudflare Tunnel (see our remote access comparison).

NordVPN prices may change: they are introductory offers (the pricing page showed a "Black Friday" promotion when we checked), and NordVPN says renewal prices "may be higher than the introductory prices and are subject to change." Prices as of 2026-10-25, source: nordvpn.com/pricing.

Both vendors offer a 30-day money-back guarantee, according to their pricing pages. Check the renewal price before you buy, because it is much higher than the intro price.
